An interview
with Shari De Nobrega,
Teresa Gerada
and Sandy Arraiol:

The Feng Shui Practitioners of South Africa.

How did it all start?

I assume you mean how did we become involved in Feng Shui? Well I became involved through my decorating business as a result of an "enquiry" from a client. After some initial research, I became absolutely fascinated with the concepts and began trying to learn more.Tree became interested when she heard about it while in Australia on holiday. She made some enquiries while there and was also very intrigued. When she returned to SA she also began to try and find out more and learn more. Obviously, because Sandy is her sister, they had conversations about Feng Shui, and Sandy also became hooked. The three of us met at a course while in pursuit of trying to learn more. And, as they say, the rest is history........

What drives you on?

Perfection. Obviously, once we became interested, we all wanted to learn the REAL thing as best as we possibly could. Only once we started learning with Master Yap did we realise how MUCH there was to learn. We want to be really good at what we do - this obviously benefits not only ourselves, but also our clients! Passion. We are all passionate about Feng Shui and we practise what we preach. We all really enjoy helping the people we come across, and its always wonderful to see the positive changes we have effected.

What is the Feng Shui scene in South Africa like?

Tricky! Hotly Political! Exciting! There is a lot of re-shuffling going on right now. Especially as people come to understand that what they have learnt up till now is either VERY basic, or completely wrong! With the influx of YCH students who are learning very advanced Feng Shui, many old and existing practitioners are being challenged to question their knowledge base and in some cases their ethics. We are endeavouring to make the process of change as gentle as possible, but we are firm about ethics and knowledge..., and it's working, slowly but surely!

What is the most common Feng Shui problem in South Africa? Big ego's, lack of integrity, lack of knowledge of Authentic Feng Shui and the Southern Hemisphere debate. We call it "Flip Flop Feng Shui". It doesn't work. Probably about 60% of my clients have had someone from this school of thought audit their homes and the results and effects are sometimes disastrous! Once the client is correctly advised, using the authentic methods, we are often likened to magicians because the results are so good!

Any last words for our readers? If you're going to learn Feng Shui - learn from the BEST! If you're going to implement Feng Shui - be sure of WHAT you are implenting! If you're going to be a practitioner - become the BEST! ....... then pass it on and share it with others!
