Feng Shui Tips
Feng Shui Tips is an on-going series by Jade Li of Dragon Gate Palace's Wind and Jade duo. It will focus on practical Feng Shui applications for the home and office.

All You Ever Wanted To Know About Windows
Windows can be a form of bad Feng Shui in your home or office. Here are 6 basic things you have to watch out for:

As a general rule, you should not have too many windows in your home or office. Auspicious chi that flows into your home must be able to settle and bring good fortune.
When you sleep, you should not be directly facing the window. The Yang energy is too strong. You may have difficulty sleeping. Even sleep will not be restful and it may affect your health.
Whether it is your bed or your desk, you should not have your back to the window. You should always have something solid and high behind you as your Black Tortoise (Mountain).
Your window should not be directly facing the door. Auspicious chi will flow into the room and back out through the window. Hence, good fortune will not be able to settle in the room.
Triangular windows are not advisable. Triangular windows represent Fire and may be too strong for the occupant of the room. You would not want the Fire to burn your good energies away.
It is best that your window does not face any poison arrows. This is important to your bedroom and office. Poison arrows (sha chi) emanate inauspicious chi that may have ill effects if they manage to come through the windows.

But do not worry if you do have a bad-feng-shui window. All you need are some heavy drapes over the window. By covering the window you will be able to minimise its ill effects. For greater effect, you can block the window with a screen or a cupboard. The idea is to block the flow of chi from flowing in and out.

Feng Shui cures are very useful to minimise, weaken and deflect inauspicious chi. A bagua outside your window can deflect some of the effects of a poison arrow. Protectors like Fu Dogs, Kei Loons, charms and amulets do a good job of warding malignant energies. Remember that Feng Shui cures cannot convert your bad chi into good, but it will help minimise their malignant effects.
