Daily Update of the First Annual World Classical Feng Shui Conference 2002 - Day 4

Monday, March 11th

Dr Manfred Kubny with his presentation Dr Manfred Kubney's speech

The final day of the World Classical Feng Shui Conference kicked off at 9.00am with Dr Manfred Kubny giving an academic speech on Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology. He came well prepared and gave a very educational talk on Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology. His talk was extremely well researched as he gave a different but insightful perspective to Chinese divination, which many have not seen before. The audience benefited greatly from his highly informative presentation on scientific and traditional ways of Four Pillars, and Dr Manfred indeed lived up to his professorship! Many were equally impressed by his strong command of the Mandarin language and his talk proved fruitful, leaving the audience quite overwhelmed with the vast information shared.

Many of you may have heard of using different applications for different hemisphere, more popularly for the Southern hemisphere. No doubt this is conflicting as well as confusing, but the following speech by Ms. Siou Foon Lee certainly cleared any misgivings regarding this subject. Ms. Siou Foon lives in Australia and is an instructor for the Yap Cheng Hai Feng Shui Center of Excellence. Her talk on "An End to the North South Debate" proved enlightening as she used case studies as to why a 'Southern Hemisphere Feng Shui' does not exist. Her talk was well researched and drove home the point, giving a better understanding of the topic.

Master Eva Wong with her presentationOne of the main highlights of the conference was Master Eva Wong's talk. She came, she went and left the audience amazed and wanting more. Master Wong spoke on "In the Path of the Dragon - The Feng Shui of Landforms" which took the audience on a trip to the mountains where serious, landform Feng Shui is found. She started off by introducing the various schools of Feng Shui and their usage, and stressed on the importance of lineage. Master Wong backed up her talk and findings with about 200 pictures on real "dragon veins" and special land formations taken from satellite images. Her talk was extremely clear, easy to understand with lovely slides of real life examples of landforms.

Master Eva Wong's speechEva Wong truly lived up to her reputation as one of the REAL Masters of Feng Shui. Her presentation was simply superb and the audience was more than impressed. She emphasized the importance of recognizing natural formations, how to recognize them, which formulas to use and where to find them. Three hours went by so quickly and her presentation was very well received by everyone in the audience. Sources told us, hundreds of her books were sold within 25 minutes after her talk. That only goes to show how impressive did Master Eva Wong came across to her audience.

The presence of Master Eva was indeed a rare treat for participants of the World Classical Feng Shui Conference. For the first time in 4 years, and only by invitation by Grand Master Yap Cheng Hai did she consent to give a public speech. Master Eva Wong remains an elusive figure to many Feng Shui followers. She lives with her husband in Colorado and follows the way of Tao. Ever mindful of the ultimate purpose of practicing Feng Shui, Master Eva ended the her session by stressing on the importance of Feng Shui practitioners to continuously learn Feng Shui, be humble, accept all forms/schools, be open minded and accept their differences. She also said that practitioners ought to learn from a master and must walk the land and learn from their surroundings.

Stephen Skinner delivered the final talk of the Conference with his speech on "The Arrival of the Dragon in the West". He is the publisher for the printed Feng Shui magazine, 'Feng Shui for Modern Living'. Mr. Skinner mapped out in a chronological order of how Feng Shui first appeared in the West, how it was received from the beginning and its future possible developments. He also put into perspective how Feng Shui has grown from a traditional Chinese art to an international practice. It was a good wrap up for a classical Feng Shui Conference being held in a Western country.

The Closing Ceremony

It had to come to this, but the Closing Ceremony of the Conference was a grand affair indeed. It started with a performance of Japanese drums, with deep and spellbinding rhythms that fascinated the audience. After the remarkable performance, the Lord Mayor of Cologne went onstage to thank everyone who had come to Cologne for the Conference.

As many people had to attend the one-day workshops the following day, they could not stay up too late for the festivities. Dr. Manfred Kubny, Master Eva Wong, Master Joseph Yu and Master Raymond Lo held their workshops on March 12th. Grand Master Yap himself did not hold a workshop, for classes for the Yap Cheng Hai Feng Shui Center of Excellence - Modules 1 to 3 commenced on the same day.

All for One

The First Annual World Classical Feng Shui Conference was a most successful event. It was a momentous affair for the promotion and development of classical Feng Shui. Five Masters and eleven speakers from very different backgrounds came and worked together for the good of this ancient art was something to be very proud of, and was certainly most impressive. The spirit of the Conference was one of friendship and harmony.
