Joey Yap's latest book, Discover Mian Xiang has finally been released. It is the founder of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics's third 'learning book', after 'Stories and Lessons on Feng Shui' and 'BaZi: The Destiny Code'.

In the 'Introduction', Joey explained that he wrote the book with the beginner in mind. Hence the reason he avoided too many Mian Xiang technical terms, though the inserted diagrams come with the original Chinese terms, a most useful reference point if you are inclined to taking your Mian Xiang knowledge further.

The first few pages were also dedicated to a brief history of Mian Xiang and what it is good for. I find this section very important and not to be missed, as Joey explains how applicable Mian Xiang is in real life. As he said, 'face reading's most powerful advantage is sublety' which I agree as most people are not apt to do an on-the-spot BaZi reading. You can judge a book by its cover; a person by his or her looks, 'as long as you know what you are looking for and what you are looking at!'

The section covering the 100 Year Map of the Face is quite thorough for a beginner's book. Each age position is given at least one reference diagram so you would not have to flip back to refer to the full 100 Year map. Also covered are the Twelve Palaces of the Face which would interest a wider audience, as it is not as technical as the 100 Year Map (though the latter is of much importance in the learning of Mian Xiang!) - basically tips and tricks the beginner could easily catch on and use.

Discover Face Reading

A whole chapter is dedicated to the reading of moles; I highly suggest anyone thinking of removing a mole on their faces to read this first before the removal!

Joey mentioned that wealth luck and marriage questions are the top two most popular that he encountered - those seeking answers would not be disappointed with the emphasize on these two topics. Females would appreciate face reading tips on finding the one - likewise males could use the given pointers to finding wives who would 'aid' them.

Joey also shares his personal perspective on face reading, explaining why he does not choose his friends according to their faces even though he is an expert on the subject. One thing he keeps repeating is that you can change your personality, your luck and your life - IF you are truly sincere and determined to make changes to improve your life.

The book's style and mannerism are trademark Joey - lots of helpful diagrams and images, decorative images and simple straight-to-the-point sentences. Having attended his seminars before, I feel that he inserted himself in the book - read it out loud and you could almost imagine Joey speaking in front of you! His 'no nonsense' yet slightly cheeky style that he favours creates a bond between the author and the reader.

Mian Xiang - Discover Face Reading is 285 pages of easy reading, a good starting point for beginners and a useful reference tool for others. A 9 out of 10 from me. And oh, do have a mirror at hand while you are reading the book - definitely easier to help you understand if you are referencing off your own face!

I am eagerly awaiting the second installment of the book; meanwhile you can purchase Joey Yap's Mian Xiang - Discover Face Reading from Feng Shui Times Bookstore.
