And so the Earth was born. From a chaotic nothingness, with a little help of course from our now familiar Pangu.
It wasn't a great place to live in either. It's main tenants were Gods, Giants and other monstrosities. Their main penchant being to destroy one another and anything else that might cross their path. Not exactly an environment one might want children to grow up in.
About this time, there existed a mother Goddess. Her name was Nuwa. She was charged with bringing about order. Being artistic, her natural instinct however, was to create.
Nuwa was not your ordinary girl next door. No. She had the face and arms of any human being but the rest of her was likened to a Dragon. Her bottom half was made up of a serpent like tail. And everything else below her waist was covered in scales rather than skin.
Having no other form of entertainment, Nuwa traversed the world. But she found it a cold and lifeless. The only thing she could see were the rivers, valleys and the beautiful, blue sky. And of course the giants and monsters; still engaged in tense battles.
As Nuwa sat on the banks of The Yellow River one bright, sunny day. An idea fell upon her. And like any good idea, she just knew that this was going to be the beginning of great things.
Why not, she thought, create some people. Humans in her image. So she scooped out and gathered a few handfuls of mud from the Yellow River. And shaped this mud into doll like figure. With arms and a head like her own. Very much like a child building a sand castle.
Having personally felt the pain of having the tail of a Dragon, Nuwa gave her creations; legs. So that the other monster wouldn't make fun of them. This also made it easier for her humans to move around. And she was pleased with her stroke of genius.
And she brought them to life. With a breath. They jumped up around her and began to play as children often do. She was even more shocked to find they called her mother. As anyone can imagine this all seemed to be moving a little too fast, even for her.
But as she became more confident with the whole parenting process, she decided making them by hand was just too time consuming. And so massproduction was born.
Fashioning her cane into a long rod, she gathered some mud at the end of it. Using her magic powers she splashed some of this mud onto the ground. These droplets were immediately transformed into little men and women.
Legend has it that those dolls she fashioned by hand later went on to greatness. And those she made by using the cane became lowly magazine editors such as yours truly.
Tired of all the work, Nuwa decided to speed up the population of the world. She instituted that time honored tradition; marriage. Of course this meant that her work was done. She now knew that her human race would not die out. Especially at the rate they were producing babies.
At least not until the invention of the television….
